With the meteorological summer of 2008 now wrapped up, here's how it played out in the CONUS. As you can see, much of the midwest ended with below normal temperatures while the southwest baked. With help from a hot June, the northeast ended above normal. The midwest got rocked by frequent severe weather, producing large precipitation anomalies. The western states and mid Atlantic region had a dry summer. The New England states ended above normal, having received much of the storminess that occurred in the midwest.
Some more details on the past summer will be include in my 2008-9 Winter Seasonal Outlook which I'll be posting within the next week.
