Intense storm today through Saturday

The NWS is going in for the storm Friday and Saturday. What once looked like an eastward track and fringe snowfalls for us, now has shifted to crossing SE SNE and bringing the axis of heaviest snowfall over the area. A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for this time period for the expectation of over 6 inches. The total storm QPF is expected to be between 2 and 3 inches through Saturday evening. The big change over to snow will occur Thursday Night, after a period of heavy rain totaling 1.5 to 2 inches.

Severe and flood concerns:
The leading edge of rain and embedded thunderstorms is already fast approaching the area and will be here by around 5pm. Our first thunderstorms of the year could indeed affect us between now and midnight tonight, although no severe weather is expected. Rain will continue through tomorrow, heavy at times, before the low moves east. We will get a brief break in the precipitation before our late season noreaster hits.

More information on the winter storm threat will be posted this evening in the winter weather outlook page. Information on the storms and flood potential will be posted in the severe weather outlook page.
