Rain today... eye on Ernesto

Tuesday, August 29, 2006; 8:00EDT

Another strong storm system has brought rain and dreary weather to the area. rain will continue through today and possibly heavy at times. Currently a large mass of rain is moving through south central NY and northern PA.
Rain will continue through tonight before tapering off by midnight. Wednesday through next week looks to be dry and chilly. Highs in the low 70s and lows dipping into the low 40s will really make it seem like autumn outside.
Speaking of autumn, I've passed by some trees that are already turning! It really amazed me (as it does every year). Please visit the outdoors section of the links page to view the current foliage report for New England.

Ernesto has been a tough storm to forecast for anyone who has tried it so far. It appears to be quite hydrophobic as it jumps from landmass to landmass. Currently it is riding along the northern edge of Cuba and will likely cross the Florida straits over the next 36 hours. The NHC has issued tropical storm warnings and hurricane watches all along the Florida peninsula. It is uncertain which coast will be affected the greatest however now it appears that a westward shift in the track is occuring so the Gulf Coast may have to keep their eye on this one. Ernesto, if assuming a more eastward track again could have a significant impact on the Carolina Coast and even up to New England.
