I dont have much time so I'll cut right to the chase. A major storm system has been progged for Friday into Saturday for a while now (comments posted in winter weather outlook page). An area of low pressure will move south from Canada and bomb out like the storm earlier in October. Colder air behind it will move out ahead and change rain to snow for much of the Great Lakes and Ohio River Valley Regions. One of the big questions is whether a secondary area of low pressure will form off the coast on Friday. This depends on how cold the upper atmosphere will get in response to the initial storm. If the secondary low forms. A change to snow in parts of SW NH and NW MA is almost a given for Friday Night as colder air rushes in behind it. If not, we will likely have a warmer, all rain event. Currently the NWS includes a mix of rain and snow for Friday Night and then rain Saturday. The heaviest precipitation will fall Saturday morning as the initial storm races just to the west of the area and possibly enhanced by secondary development. I'll have my first forecast for this storm posted in the winter weather outlook page later tonight.
Behind the storm, the coldest temperatures of the season will push into the region. Already the NWS is calling for highs in the mid 30s and lows in the low 20s for Sunday and Monday meaning the potential is there for further cold enhancement of the forecast. Details on this later.
