A swath of precipitation is moving through NY and VT and should be reaching the area within the next hour. Count on rain for a few minutes before evaporational cooling at the surface switches precipitation to freezing rain by 730am. Freezing rain, mixed with sleet at times this afternoon, will fall moderate to heavy through the day with water equivilants exceeding an inch by evening. This will translate into icing near .25 by 1pm, and nearing .5" by this evening, along with sleet accumulations up to 1" to 1.5". All precipitation will change to snow by 1am tonight, falling moderate to heavy through 7am Thursday. Confidence is increasing for at least 6 inches of snow from this storm.
Snow accumulation forecast: 4" to 7"
Ice accretion forecast: .3" to .5"
- Snowday outlook -
It appears that school is on for today, most likely based on current conditions. However conditions will rapidly deteriorate later this morning, even earlier than last Friday with the early dismissal. So I would not be suprised to see a 12:30 dismissal today. I would be suprised to see nothing at all. Thursday looks like definitely at least a delay, possibly a cancellation.
