The storm that brought heavy rain, and some snow to southern New England yesterday has pulled northeast over Nova Scotia. High pressure is building in across the Great Lakes region, and the resulting pressure gradient will be generating strong gusty winds through today and into tomorrow. The atmosphere has dried out for the most part, however cyclonic flow has kept an area of pesky clouds along the Connecticut River valley. This should dissipate through this evening and tonight. Very chilly 850mb temperatures around -10C will keep highs in the low 40's, and the winds will make it feel more like 30.
Tonight, the winds continue with cold air still advecting in at the surface. Mostly clear skies will allow temperatures to fall to around 20.
Monday, inflection point and cyclonic flow pushes to our east. 850mb temperatures will be on the rebound to around -5C in the afternoon. With sunny skies we should be able to hit 50. Monday night, clear skies and lighter winds will allow for radiation cooling to bring us back to around 20, or upper teens even.
On Tuesday, low pressure moves into the Mid Atlantic region from the west. This system is currently trigging a significant severe weather outbreak over eastern Texas and Louisiana. Model guidance has shifted the track of the low north somewhat, but still keeps moisture clear of the area, besides the immediate south coast of New England. Sunny skies should continue on Tuesday, and ridging building over the region with 850mb temperatures around 0C will push highs into the upper 50's. Wednesday, some clouds will move in during the afternoon as low pressure passes closest to the region. Nevertheless, highs still should hit the mid 50's.
Thursday and Friday will feature maximum negative vorticity with sunny skies and rising temperatures up toward 60. Saturday, shortwave energy passes to our north with some clouds possible depending on the alignment of the axis of confluence. While no precipitation will be involved, this system will bring some cooler temperatures back toward the northeast. A storm system will be developing in the central Plains and move toward the region on Sunday into Monday. This will bring a chance for showers and carve a trough across the eastern US, with +PNA ridging building in the west.
