Cold and finally some snow!
Snow is falling in earnest over Keene right now. Already an inch of snow has accumulated. The radar is showing an area of snow extending from Boston, MA to Syracuse, NY and southward to Philadelphia, PA. The radar returns also indicate some areas of heavy precipitation, including just north of Albany and a line from Philadelphia to Hartford. These two areas will likely merge over central and south central NH later tonight. This is where accumulations could exceed 4 inches. The NWS forecast for Keene currently calls for 2 to 4 inches. My previous forecast of 1.5" to 3" is a bit too conservative with potential banding here for an hour or two, so will raise it to 3 - 5 inches.
Climate information: This already has exceeded our maximum storm total this season of 1.1" on December 30th. Considering our season total so far of 2.5", this storm has the potential to double that figure!
Much colder air will move into the region for next week with windchills possibly falling below -20 for the first time this year. Also, our next storm threat is the 12th, which I have little information on right now. I will cover the medium and long term in full detail tomorrow.
