Icy weather possible tonight

An area of low pressure located in central Canada with a front draped southward toward a low in South Dakota will bring an area of light to moderate precipitation into the region later tonight. Temperatures aloft will be above freezing, however temperatures in the upper 20s at the surface will mean a chance of sleet and freezing rain through dawn Thursday. The NWS point forecast mentions snow, but I have some reservations about including that in the forecast. in any case, accumulations will be very light, as temperatures at the surface will rise above freezing before any steady precipitation moves in. However, we could be talking about icy roads for the morning commute.

Stay tuned for later updates.
