Cooler weather followed by rain Friday and Sunday

The front that brought the wind and rain to the region yesterday has moved off the coast this morning. much cooler air has already begun infiltrating the region. Today highs will struggle to reach the mid 60s allowing lows tonight to drop back to around 40. Light winds will continue to blow across the area today and any brief gusts left from the storm could drop wind chill values into the 40s this morning and evening. Tuesday and Tuesday Night will feature essentially the same temperatures under sunny skies. Temperatures will moderate into Wednesday and Thursday with highs reaching the upper 60s. A storm system will bring some more rain to the region Thursday Night into Friday. There is a chance, if the atmosphere is unstable enough, for some thunder. Nothing severe is expected at this time. Cooler weather will follow with the coldest highs we've seen this fall possible on Saturday in the upper 50s. The weather pattern gets interesting as we move into the latter half of next weekend. A storm system in Canada is expected to dive southward into the midwest bring colder air with it. Current model runs suggest this storm will continue south and eastward and could pull off the coast near the DelMarVa Peninsula. While this all depends on everything being just right, the storm could then move northward as a nor easter for late Sunday bringing with it heavy rains and high winds. Obviously at this point in the season, do not expect precipitation type to even be a factor. In the long term, after the storm pulls through, temperatures will warm back into the 60s and may even near 70 under sunny skies.

In the tropics, we continue to monitor Invest 96L, which has become more disorganized in the past 12 hours. The earlier chances for this wave to develop has diminished as shear and dry air have increased. While 96L still has some potential to form into a TD, the chances are shrinking fast. Elsewhere in the Atlantic, tropical development is not expected through Wednesday.
