Okay, first order of business is TD 9. TD 9 formed yesterday from the wave 96L. Although still disorganized, it has strengthened a bit and is very close to TS intensity. TD 9 is in the central Atlantic and will begin recurving east of the Bahamas within the next few days, following the paths of sister Helene and brother Gordon. However, their intensity will not be reached by TD 9 as shear is already disturbing the cyclone and preventing organization. TD 9 will likely reach TS intensity briefly before becoming extratropical over the northern Atlantic.
For historical refrence:
If TD 9 becomes Isaac and Isaac does not become a major hurricane, it would be the first time since 1998-1999 that the I storm has not reached major hurricane status two seasons in a row.
If TD 9 becomes Isaac and Isaac does not become a hurricane it would be the first time since 1989 with TS Iris (70mph) that the I storm has not reached hurricane intensity, not including 1997, 1994, 1993, 1992, and 1991 all of which didnt reach the I storm.
The weakest I storm since 1980 was Isaac in 1988 winds 45mph, pressure 1005mb
This time last year, Rita had died inland two days ago and Stan was to form on October first. At this time in 2004, Lisa had just begun recurving northward in the eastern Atlantic.
